70 young people from OIC regions — including Palestine, Turkey, Somalia, and Malaysia — participate in week-long camp

SAMSUN, Turkey 

An international institution affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concluded a camp on Sunday aimed at familiarizing young people with important concepts of journalism, the media, and their role as youth leaders. 

The Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC) organized the media camp in Turkey’s Black Sea province of Samsun. 

The ICYF-DC Youth Media Summer Camp was co-organized by Turkey’s Youth and Sports Ministry, the State of Palestine’s Higher Council for Youth and Sports, and Turkey’s leading news agency, Anadolu Agency.  

A total of 70 young people from OIC regions — including Palestine, Turkey, Somalia, Malaysia, Lebanon, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Albania, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Azerbaijan — took part in the week-long camp. 

Among the camp’s objectives were to explore crucial elements of the journalist’s craft, show how to evaluate the reliability of sources and approach information critically, build the leadership skills of Muslim youth, and empower them through meaningful participation in the media. 

The camp also focused on creating an atmosphere for discuss the most important youth-related problems in media participation in the region and produce solutions as youth leaders.
